Three schools standing out for Max Williams

Max Williams may be a few inches shorter than the other elite cornerbacks on the West Coast, but none have better cover skills than the Serra standout. And Williams is being pursued by many of the top schools in the country. On Friday Georgia DC Mel Tucker and USC OC Tee Martin checked in on Williams and his Cavalier teammates.

Not many have had an opportunity to visit as many schools as Williams has over the past three years. He's seen most of the Pac-12 schools, several SEC schools, Big-10 campuses, Notre Dame and now his focus is on setting up official visits.

"I don't want to take official visits too early, because I'm going to make a late decision," said Williams.  "I want to take my official visits during the season and after the season. Right now I know I'm taking my official visit to Notre Dame when they play Stanford (9/28). I was scheduled to take it earlier, but I have a game that day."

Although Williams doesn't have dates set for two more schools he'll officially visit, Oregon and USC will also get an official from him.

"USC, Oregon and Notre Dame are my main three right now," Williams said. "I'm going to take my USC official visit last, so it's more in depth. If you take your official visit to USC during the season, it's not much different than an unofficial. You can go to any game you want for the most part. I can spend more time with the players and coaches after the season. Coaches really don't have a lot of time to spend with you during the season."

Tee Martin is Williams main contact for the Trojans, but when he's on campus he said he's spent several hours one on one with USC DBs coach Ronnie Bradford. He also talks often with a former Serra teammate.

"I talk to CJ (Pollard) on a daily basis and I know he likes it at USC a lot," he said. "Even though Tee is who I talk to the most from USC, when me and my dad have been on campus we spend a lot of time with him. Last time we visited we were with him for maybe two or three hours. So I have a really good relationship with him."

With Williams taking his first unofficial visit during his freshman year and taking several each year after that, he's experienced a lot more than most going through the recruiting process. We asked him if there was one or two visits that blew him away.

"I was blown away by Oregon," said Williams. "Hopefully I'm blown away by Notre Dame during the season. I've heard it's going to be a really nice visit. I really liked my Stanford visit, too."

TrojanInsider.com will see Max next week at the Los Al 7v7 Tournament.
